Check out this week’s Behind Bars bartender, Mandy Fichera. Mandy works out at our Bradley Creek brewery, Mad Mole Brewing. Mad Mole has a Belgian-focused beer program and are extremely eco-friendly with their use of solar panels to power their brew house! See what Mandy has to say about being a craft beer bartender.
AT: What is your favorite thing about bartending?
MF: My favorite thing is the customers. Making memorable connections and building relationships. Whether it’s with someone from out of town that I have a slim chance of seeing again, or with the regulars I see every other day. I truly feel a special bond with the people who come into Mad Mole. It’s authentic, and I know they feel it too. Also I love when it gets crazy busy, it’s an adrenalin rush for sure.
AT: Do you have any advice for current or future craft beer bartenders?
MF: When its super busy, seconds matter. Master multitasking. Once you’re able to handle and remember one task, challenge yourself to add on another. Speed is key. And be productive with your anxiety. Channel your nerves into something useful.
AT: If you were a beer, which one would you be?
MF: I would say I’m a New England IPA. I was born in Massachusetts. I have a noticeably different appearance in what I wear that catches people eye. Not too much bitterness to me, but I’m am pretty juicy, tropical, and smooth.
